So what’s our story?
Back in 2010 I had just graduated with my Masters degree from the University of Hertfordshire and I was embarking on the world of full time work. It’s a big step to take when you’re not really sure what you want to do. I decided to take a bit of a break from the books and headed off to America for an adventure. Whilst I was out there the cupcake boom was in full explosion and I found myself in the kitchen trying out new recipes & eating a lot of cake. As you can see from the picture below, our cakes have come a long way!
I have always loved baking and decorating cakes, taking inspiration from my mum who created so many amazing cakes for us as children. My love grew and I decided to start up a Facebook page to showcase my work. Then suddenly I found myself receiving enquiries for bespoke cakes and slowly I built up a business.
In 2012 I won a competition (Flare) run by the University of Hertfordshire; think mini Dragon’s Den. With the investment I converted my sister’s old bedroom into a small kitchen that was just for Heaven is a Cupcake (sorry, sis!) In my defence, she had moved out already! It was great to have my very own space to work in but it soon became too much to handle (no complaints there). I needed help! I employed my first assistant and Heaven is a Cupcake started to grow. It was in 2016 that I realised I had to go all in or get out. I’d been looking around and properties but nothing was quite right until up popped the St Albans Enterprise Centre. It was in the perfect location, just outside St Albans town centre with plenty of parking and easy to get to. It was also a shell to do with what we wanted and what we wanted was a nice big cake kitchen!
And as they say, the rest is history. We have been in Porters Wood, St Albans since 2016 and I now have a brilliant team who help me create the best cakes in St Albans (if I do say so myself. Meet the team….
